Pools Please!
Not Until June 27th
NYC public pools might need to rethink opening day in a warming world. At this point, all 54 outdoor public pools open on the same day, which is 2.5 long hot weeks away. But when they do open, I am certainly planning on visiting the floating pool which will be posting in the South Bronx this year. Last summer, for its initial voyage, its home pier was in Brooklyn. This years’ views might not be of lower Manhattan, but summer in the city is best in the Boogie Down Bronx.
In the mean time, I was hoping that the Waterfalls project would come to completion, spraying its mist my way. Building 110, on Governors Island, serves as the backdrop to one of Olafur Eliasson’s waterfalls and also happens to house our exhibit out on the island this summer. Bad news though, the falls are set to flow on the 26th of June.
So today, on this ridiculously hot day, I feel like a kid at Christmas, waiting for my time. But alas, we have another few days to suffer! Let’s just remember that the latest studies predict more 100 degree days on a warmed planet. Turn that moment of desperation into something positive and come to Governors Island to educate and recreate.
